Sebastian Vettel and Aston Martin have not been the best of matches so far. The German is, of course, one of the greatest ever drivers in Formula 1, but many believe he is on the decline. Moreover, Aston Martin’s car has not lived up to its potential this year. Despite showing pace in Miami, the results have been poor, to say the least.

Is it the driver’s fault? Is it the team’s fault? This debate could go on forever with no definite answer. However, Vettel has certainly been at the end of dismal performances and rumors state that he could retire from the sport. The four-time world champion’s season only started in Australia and he has achieved just 4 points so far with two retirements to his name.

With all the uncertain things surrounding Vettel, one this is for certain – his mentality to win. With his current contract ending this year and Aston Martin’s struggles, the 34-year-old states he is yet to decide his future.

Speaking on Aston Martin’s performance and his contract, he said, “ I’m interested in winning. I haven’t made a decision yet about my future but I have been spoiled because I was at the front and I know how it is, and it feels amazing. As a team, it’s not a secret, we wanted to be at the front, but are now at the back. We’re working very, very hard.”

His last race win was back in Singapore in 2019. Although he stepped on the podium with the British team, his long drought without a win continues. And it does not satisfy him.

“It’s just at the back of the field, you have no reward. I didn’t mind when I started but finishing outside of the top 10 isn’t what I am here for. I want to win,” he added.

What legacy will Vettel leave behind?

Vettel is certainly in the latter stages of his career. After some disappointing years with Ferrari and Aston Martin, rumors stated he might retire. “Time will tell,” was his reaction to the rumors, as he as currently focused on the job at hand.
