Marko’s desire to win in Japan rather than Singapore

Max Verstappen is currently leading comfortably with a 116 points lead over Charles Leclerc. If he wins and a couple of other results go in his favor, they might crown him the champion in Singapore.

In a recent interview with Austrian broadcaster ORF, Helmut Marko reflected on the 2022 season so far. This is where he expressed his desire for Max to win the championship at the Japanese Grand Prix and not Singapore.

Helmut Marko on Red Bull’s early season woes and Ferrari’s current slump

Marko talked about their car’s excessive weight, which was the reason why Red Bull did not start the season on a strong note. He told how this weight problem was overcome and how the car was developed to Max’s liking.

He said, “when we reduced the weight, two or three kilos per race, we saw improvements, along with a very intense development program. And we focused on the front of the car. Max needs a car that can attack the front, what happens with the rear doesn’t interest him that much.”

The Red Bull advisor compared how Red Bull’s car kept improving throughout the season, while Ferrari had their own issues. Marko said, “Our car has gradually improved more and more, while Ferrari has shown technical defects, associated with driving errors of the drivers and the gap has become a comfortable advantage”.
