Sky Sports recently shared footage of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton’s infamous crash in Silverstone. The short video showed Verstappen sliding across the gravel trap in slow motion before colliding with the barriers. The video is shared with a “Merry Christmas” message for Max Verstappen on their Twitter handle. However, many found the video to be insensitive for mocking the high-speed crash that the Dutchman suffered.

The Red Bull F1 team has taken a firm stand against this short link. The Red Bull driver ended up in the hospital for checks after he hit the barrier going at a speed of almost 170 km/h. It was natural that the tweet was not well received by the team and fans.

Red Bull upset over tweet mocking Verstappen

The Milton Keynes team expressed their dissatisfaction over the use of that collision footage. The incident was an important one in the title race where Max ended up not finishing while Lewis Hamilton won the race. A Red Bull spokesperson recently responded to Sky about this disrespectful Christmas-themed video.

“We are extremely disappointed that footage is used of a crash, in which someone ended up in the hospital,” said the Red Bull spokesperson as reported by Gpblog.

After facing tremendous backlash, Sky Sports finally pulled back the footage.

Max Verstappen was furious about the incident

The Briton was given a 10-second penalty for the incident but that did not make any difference to the result. Max Verstappen was particularly upset over the whole scenario for obvious reasons.

“Glad I’m ok. Very disappointed with being taken out like this. The penalty given does not help us and doesn’t do justice to the dangerous move Lewis made on the track,” said Verstappen’s tweet following the race.

The fact that he saw his rival celebrating while he was in the hospital didn’t sit right with the Red Bull star. “Watching the celebrations while still in hospital is disrespectful and unsportsmanlike behavior but we move on.”
