Helmut Marko says he will decide his own fate

According to a recent report, Helmut Marko recently told Austrian Broadcaster ORF that he might not be present for the next race in Australia. In response to Motorsport.com’s inquiries about his possible absence from the upcoming race, Marko hinted at the possibility of a suspension, stating, “I’ll put it this way, it’s difficult to judge or let’s put it this way, ultimately, I’ll decide for myself what I do. The theoretical possibility always exists.”

He emphasized the complexity of the situation, stressing the importance of maintaining harmony within the team. “We want peace in the team. This world championship will be difficult enough with 24 races and we have to concentrate on that.The investigation has also drawn the attention of Red Bull‘s engine partner, Honda, which is seeking clarity on the matter. Marko indicated that Honda is keen on receiving a clear explanation of the events. However, he emphasized the need for the team to refocus on the sporting aspect and prioritize their performance on the track.

The significance of Marko’s situation is underscored by reports suggesting that Max Verstappen’s future with the team could hinge on Marko’s presence. It’s been rumored that Verstappen’s contract includes a clause allowing him to leave if Marko departs. Max is certainly the strongest asset that the team has,” Marko acknowledged Verstappen’s importance to the team. “There is no faster driver at the moment and if we were to lose him, it would be an incredible loss, because of course there are also an incredible number of mechanics, including engineers, who are all working incredibly hard for Max.”
