Renault F1 Junior Driver Placed Under Quarantine Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

Formula 2 driver Christian Lundgaard won’t be able to take part in the first F2 test in Bahrain. Lundgaard, a Renault F1 junior driver was training on the Spanish island of Tenerife when the island was put under quarantine. Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands.
Lundgaard will be doing his first year in F2 with ART Grand Prix this season. However, his season won’t start in the manner he needed it to start. Last year, he contested in the Formula 3 championship with ART and was able to score his 1st F3 win in Hungaroring. Before that, he had won the rookie of the year title in Formula Renault.
Renault F1 team and ART Grand Prix gave a joint statement after news of Lundgaard being in quarantine broke out.

The statement said, “Regrettably, due to a genuine force majeure situation, Danish racer Christian Lundgaard will be unable to take part in the official FIA Formula 2 tests in Bahrain from 1 – 3 March 2020.”
“Renault Sport Academy, ART, and Christian would like to thank you for your wishes. No further announcement will be made in this unprecedented situation.”

Over the past week, Christian was part of a winter training camp in Tenerife organized by Renault Sport Academy. The city is facing major issues of the Coronavirus outbreak and his hotel is under quarantine. Today the authorities ruled that all guests of the hotel must remain in quarantine for two weeks as a precaution.

However, Christian has been inspected by medical experts and declared fit. Statement assured that he is not displaying any symptoms of COVID-19.
The coronavirus outbreak is playing havoc with sporting events all over the globe. Several events already postponed or canceled, including the Chinese Grand Prix. There are fears that more races like the Australian GP, Vietnam GP, and Baharain GP could also be in doubt. This news only elevates the worries over the virus.
