Before the brand-new F1 season begins next month, drivers and team bosses are taking the last hiatus. Among them are Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and former Red Bull driver turned F1 pundit David Coulthard. The duo was enjoying their time with their wives before the grind of yet another season begins with a couples’ date night. However, they had some unexpected guests over, ones from the royal family.

By now, Christian and Geri Halliwell’s reverence for the royal family is no secret. While their interaction with the royals began way back, their response to the passing of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II showed just how close they were. Geri had some elaborate plans to celebrate her 50th birthday with a grand party. However, she had to ditch all those plans as the news of the royal matriarch’s death left her devastated.

But little did we know that their bond with the royals was so deep that they arrived at each others’ dinner parties unannounced. As Coulthard and his wife Karen Minier enjoyed the company of Christian and Geri, Princess Anne’s daughter Zara and her former rugby player husband Mike Tindall joined them, Hello! Magazine reported. Geri and Christian later took to Instagram to post stories of the three couples having a great time.

The former spice girl is now pretty used to interacting with the members of the royal family. However, there was a time she could not control herself and broke the protocol with the then-prince and now king, Charles III.

Back in the day, Ginger Spice was quite a flamboyant firecracker with a maverick attitude. King Charles can attest to that fact as she once patted his behind at a charity gala. The Spice Girls were among the invitees for the 21st anniversary of The Prince’s Trust Gala. When the then-prince proceeded to meet the Spice Girls, Geri gave him a peck on the cheek and, as per reports, pinched his bum.

Nearly 20 years after the incident, she cleared the air in an interview with The Times. “I didn’t pinch Prince Charles’s bum, as was reported,” she said. “I patted it. Patting him on the bottom was against royal protocol but we’re all human.”
