With F1’s growing popularity, it is understandable why organizers might want to shift tracks in the calendar. However, fans will expect this to be done with the utmost care taken for the older ones.

The Aston Martin driver pressed on the need to understand the traditional value some circuits hold for F1. Acknowledging the importance of shifting to other countries, he also backed the need to stay close to the roots. The racer said, “Obviously you hope all the new places you go to are an addition.”

“Equally, you don’t want to lose out on the places you’ve gone to for so long. So it would be horrible to lose Melbourne from the calendar. It would be horrible to lose some of the core tracks in Europe.”

His concerns are valid, because although F1 is ultimately a business, as a driver, for him some tracks are just too precious to lose.

Some circuits are dear to fans and drivers

The Melbourne circuit, for example, which acted as a season opener for several years, was not available for the past two years. Because of its status as a legendary track, fans missed it dearly. As it made a much awaited comeback this year, the circuit recorded a record-breaking attendance.

Circuits like Monza might not cut F1 the biggest cheques but they still hold big importance. The rich history and the thrill of these tracks are unmatched. Vettel, backing his claims, added, “I think it’s unimaginable to lose Italy, for example, off the calendar, for many reasons, even though they probably pay the least. But yeah, I think this is something we need to hold on to.”
