Sebastian Vettel Explains Possible Reason Behind Massive Gap to Charles Leclerc

Sebastian Vettel did not have the best of times during the 70th Anniversary race at Silverstone. After a spin at the start, things only went downhill for the 4-time world champion.

When he pitted, he emerged behind Carlos Sainz and was not too thrilled about it.

When he spoke to the media after the race, he said, “We spoke this morning that there’s no point pitting, knowing that we will run into traffic and that is exactly what we did. We went also on a hard tire, which we then had for roughly 10 laps.

“It didn’t make any sense, I mean why would you put the hards for 10 laps then put the mediums for 20 laps?”

To make matters worse, Sebastian Vettel was running out of usable tire compounds. All in all, it really was not his or Ferrari’s best effort out on the track.

What else did Sebastian Vettel say?

Vettel later spoke about the gulf between himself and Charles Leclerc, especially since the start of the season. One honestly had to wonder if Vettel was driving a completely different car compared to the Monegasque.

However, the German admitted that he may be missing some things and is trying to extract the maximum from the car nonetheless.

He knew that he had the capability of finishing higher up the order had he not spun at the start. Vettel confessed that he was not sure why he spun. However, it was hard to have a clean race from his starting grid slot.

Now, all he can do is rue what could have been and train his focus on the upcoming race weekend in Spain.

I try to get out of bed and do as best as I can. Today we could have been higher up.

“For my side with the spin I’m not sure what happened there, also with strategy we could have recovered better. The main difference is we don’t have clean races from where we start. He [Leclerc] had a couple of clean races so far so…”

So far, Sebastian Vettel has not finished higher than 6th place and finished out of the points, twice. Truthfully, he needs a massive mojo boost, especially if he wants to remain on the grid next season.
