“See Them More Than I See My Wife”: Sergio Perez Makes Honest Confession to Life As Red Bull Driver

Sergio Perez and his story with Red Bull is a feel-good tale. The young Mexican who showed so much potential, could never really challenge for a seat in a top team. But when everything went bleak, he got the biggest chance of his life.
While writing a piece for Players’ Tribune, the Mexican spoke about this life-changing partnership with Red Bull.

He began by saying, “Actually, I was already thinking about my life without racing. Then Red Bull offered me a deal at the last race of the season, and of course I was super happy to accept.”
Perez then went on to explain why Red Bull is the place to be for any F1 driver today.
“Competing for Oracle Red Bull Racing is a huge privilege, you know? With such a strong car you’re almost guaranteed a chance to fight for a victory every weekend, which is what you want.”
But he also shed some light on the cost of success. He explained, “A really crucial thing is that my relationship with the mechanics is so good. We’re obsessed about winning and we’re having fun, which is a big deal because we spend so much time together. I mean, I see them more than I see my wife!”

Being in one of the most coveted seats in F1 right now, Perez has his eyes set on an even greater prize. Before his home Grand Prix, tonight, the Mexican spoke about the prospects of winning it.

It’s no secret that for an F1 driver, their home Grand Prix is as big as anything can ever get. Hence, it should not come as a surprise that now, being able to compete for wins on the regular, Sergio Perez is eyeing for Grand Prix glory in his own backyard.
While talking about winning his home Grand Prix, he said, “I’ve dreamt a few times already about it. And it will be massive for me.”

But he was also pragmatic about what he needs to do to ensure his dreams turn into reality.
He explained, “Obviously that’s the target for Sunday. It will not be easy. We need to be perfect throughout the weekend. At the end of the day, it’s another weekend with the same amount of points – but it’s the most special one for me.”
