The sport of Formula 1 is decorated with rivalries that add to the grand allure of it all. But while it’s often the drivers that battle tooth and nail for wins, poles, and championships, the men and women behind the spectacle have had their gloves off, too. Toto Wolff and Christian Horner have been plotting each other’s downfall for the better part of a decade. And truth be told, as things stand, it is anyone’s fight.

It is safe to say that the duo of Wolff and Horner have not really seen eye-to-eye in these past couple of months. It is still pretty evident to see that the two share a ‘I can’t live, with or without you’ kind of relationship.

Though the bickering and rivalry between these two legendary F1 bosses have been intense on many occasions, there is undeniable respect between the two. Some may even call it admiration. After all, they are the last of a dying breed in this sport.

And Horner admitted this in so many words. Crash.net quoted the Brit as saying, “I suppose Toto [Wolff] and myself are perhaps two of the more ‘dinosaur’ type of characters compared to some. Even though I’m still on the younger side of the team principals.”

“When I first came into the sport, there was Ron Dennis, there was Flavio Briatore, there was Eddie Jordan, there was Jean Todt. There was Bernie Ecclestone running it, there was Max Mosley there, Frank Williams – some really big characters and personalities.”

But there is one redeeming quality, apart from their meteoric history, that the recently announced Billionaire Wolff has which makes Horner look at him with utmost respect and affection.

“Now you look around the room, there’s more managers there and it’s gotten much more technical than the entrepreneurial side.”

Horner seems to be in acceptance of what they mean to the sport irrespective of their differences. However, Wolff probably hasn’t warmed up to that idea just yet.

Wolff and Horner seemingly don’t miss even a single opportunity to put the other down in front of the whole world. But while Horner is enjoying his day in the sun with Red Bull‘s terrifying dominance on track, Mercedes boss Wolff knows he’s winning at the mind games off of it.

At the beginning of the 2023 season, Wolff was quoted telling The Times, “I am living in his head rent free. The guy is obsessed. Every second that I spend on talking about Horner is a waste of time in my life,” while referring to their captivating rivalry.
