Mercedes F1 Team Principal, Toto Wolff, has expressed concerns about the number of races taking place in the 2021 season. Already the 2020 season suffered multiple races being canceled or postponed with new venues coming forth to save the season. This season already, Australia has been postponed, China has been cancelled and there were rumors earlier that pointed towards street circuits being cancelled as well.

Toto Wolff is worried for the 2021 season

Speaking on the same, in a German interview with ORF, aggregated by motorsport-total.com, translated via Google, he said: “This fear is of course justified.”

He explains further by saying, “Australia has been postponed, but the Grand Prix is so important that they didn’t want to cancel it entirely. It will follow suit at the end of the year.

“And China has a general ban for major events until August. These are two factors that cannot be influenced. Therefore we start in Bahrain.” 

He was very satisfied with starting the season at Bahrain. The Mercedes boss cited the two races which happened there. He also says that having the pre season testing at Bahrain is a major benefit. “We know that, and somehow it’s always relatively easy there.”

The Austrian thinks the second half of the season should normalise. He said, “I assume that we will have a reasonably normal season again after the summer.”

He thinks the 23 race calendar will be a massive challenge and would put a lot of pressure on the team. “It will certainly be incredibly difficult for the race team, too.

“We will have three triple headers in a row. You won’t come home for four weeks. That is of course an enormous burden,” the Austrian observed.

Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton & the 2021 season

Mercedes have had a tricky start to the 2021 season. Lewis Hamilton endures without a contract, and rumors don’t paint a very promising picture.

Naturally, the only logical consequence out of these stories is that Lewis and Mercedes will sign. But the tenure and pay is what is still being deliberated upon, as per various stories.

Naturally, there is a definite chance Lewis will return with the Mercedes team as they prepare for their next year’s challenge.
