“Things Have Moved” – Sainz Sr Opens up on Carlos Sainz and Ferrari Rumours

On Tuesday, Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel dropped a bombshell that the German is leaving the team. This opens up several avenues for who can take his place. One of the favourites for the seat is McLaren driver Carlos Sainz Jr., who could switch from McLaren and Vettel could take his place.

Now, Carlos Sainz’s father and namesake has opened up on the speculation surrounding his son’s future. The. multiple-time Dakar Rally winner admitted that all the Sainz to Ferrari rumours are “accelerating”.

“I can’t tell you much because I don’t want to deceive anyone,” Carlos Sainz Sr told Movistar. “But it is clear that things are accelerating and that the teams are not going to wait for the season to start because it is not even known if there will be a season.”

“It is true that he is happy where he is and it is true that lately things have moved a lot. I want to think that sooner or later there will be a solution. We cannot stay for two more months with these rumours. But I am sure you are going to allow me to not tell you any more because these are delicate moments,”

If Carlos Sainz moves to Ferrari, how will this affect the driver market?

Following Vettel’s exit, all sorts of wild rumours began to fly around. This included talks of a swap between Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. Former F1 driver, Jarno Trulli admitted to L’Equipe that Mercedes may not want to let their star driver go. Howeverm Lewis Hamilton is the best driver so there is a sliver of a chance.

Interestingly, Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, backs Carlos Sainz to partner Charles Leclerc.

“Sainz has suddenly grown into a very competitive driver. He would be easy for the team to manage,” he told Bild. “If he went there, he would be number 2 and he would have no problem being number 2 at Ferrari,” said Ecclestone.
