The first sprint race of the 2022 season is completed as the fans are anticipating an exciting race on Sunday. As predicted, there has been no sign of rain today, and Max Verstappen took advantage of that and will start the Sunday GP on pole. Meanwhile, the McLaren duo Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo finished P5 and P6, much to the satisfaction of the team.

Lando Norris started P3 on the grid for the sprint race, but McLaren struggled to match the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari as Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz overtook the Brit. However, Norris is happy with the result and revealed the team is hoping for some luck tomorrow to finish higher.

Norris also revealed competing with the top two teams this year is tough, especially during a 21-lap sprint race. He revealed the team will look to retain their position during the race. However, the Brit hopes for an error from the top 4 drivers on the grid.

He added, “Probably the same again. We do have a chance to beat the guys ahead of us. You know there is some mishaps and they collide and whatever which when they are fighting for the championship and if that happens, we will be there to try and capitalize on it. Honestly, on the pace we are long, long way off and 5th and 6th is the best we can do so.”

McLaren looking to maximize the car’s potential

The 22-year-old also stated the team is still trying to get in grips with the car. Nevertheless, he believes the team has improved massively after a torrid start to the season.

“There has been some small upgrades and small new parts let’s say, it’s not necessarily an upgrade. A lot of it is just extracted all the performances out of the car, we understand it a little bit more and therefore we are just maximizing the car we have.

“We are doing a good job at that, but further down the line, hopefully, we can take some steps towards the top few teams and we might have some chances to race against them,” conveyed the McLaren driver.
