The Haas duo of Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen find themselves without an F1 drive for 2021. However, that’s definitely not going to be the end of their motorsport careers. At the drivers’ press conference, ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix, Grosjean revealed that he is in talks with an IndyCar team.

The Frenchman said (translated by Google), “Yes, it’s true. I negotiate with various racing teams from the IndyCar sport. But for that to be concrete, I have to hold an offer in my hands.

“What appeals to me about IndyCar sport: Everyone uses a Dallara chassis, which creates a certain equality of opportunity. You have a good chance of getting a top position in the race.”

However, he may not be the only Haas driver making the jump to IndyCar. Teammate Magnussen, too, said that the chance to race in the series interests him. However, he isn’t too hopeful.

The Dane said, “The IndyCar sport is high on my wishlist. I think ovals are really cool and spectacular. And the classic routes on which IndyCar competes are still really old school, I really like that.

“There are negotiations with IndyCar racing teams. But there aren’t many cockpits left and the biggest problem is that I can’t bring that much money with me.”

Both Grosjean and Magnussen haven’t participated in any motorsport series in the Americas. So, if they do bag a deal, this will be their first taste of American open-wheel racing.

If they end up at IndyCar for 2021, they won’t be the only drivers there with F1 experience. Former Marussia driver Alexander Rossi and ex-BAR and Super Aguri driver Takumo Sato are also set to compete in the series. Both of these drivers have been regulars in IndyCar racing for the past few seasons.

Another driver who has been involved with IndyCar, or rather the Indianapolis 500 race, in recent times, is Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard has participated thrice in the prestigious event in order to win the rare motorsport triple-crown. However, to no avail.

Coming back to Grosjean and Magnussen, their jobs at Haas F1 aren’t done just yet.

Driving for the American team at the back of the grid, a high note may not necessarily involve a podium (heck, it’ll be some race if they manage that). The best they can hope for is to add to the team’s points tally, which currently only stands at three points from 13 races.

With three races to go, they’d want to mount a late charge on rival Alfa Romeo, who sits in eighth place on the Constructors’ championship table with eight points.
