Valtteri Bottas is probably tired of answering the same question in different forms. Bottas made headlines when he joined a midfield team from world champions, Mercedes. The multi-year contract and the alpha status at Alfa Romeo came with a much-improved car as well. And the struggling Mercedes so far has meant Bottas passing his former team on the track multiple times.

Bottas, however, does not think much of it. Even though he was always behind Lewis in the pecking order and often conceded his place on the track in favor of the world champion, he does not hold any grudges against his former team. And therefore, passing a Mercedes car on the track, be it Lewis or George, Bottas doesn’t relish it as much as one might expect him to.

Currently focused on the task at hand, Bottas is trying to push his team. And gather as many points for himself and Alfa Romeo with rookie teammate Zhou as he can. And when asked about Mercedes yet again the Finn said, “I don’t smile under a helmet when I pass Mercedes. I have no desire for revenge against them.”

Alfa Romeo is currently fifth in the constructors’ championship with 31 points after the first five races. And that is already a much-improved result from last year’s ninth position with just 13 points throughout the season. Bottas’s impact on the team has been significant with the Finn scoring most of the points. And as per Bottas, Mercedes and any sort of revenge is the last thing on his mind.

After yet another disappointing free practice Friday session, Bottas is concerned this is becoming a trend. The Finn found himself in a similar situation as Miami after an engine problem forced him off during FP2.

However, the tricky Friday trend is not keeping Bottas down. “It seems a bit of a trend that we have tricky Fridays and we don’t get much running which is unfortunate but I’m sure we can bounce back. The positive thing is that one lap that I had on the mediums the car felt pretty good. We can work on that,” said Valtteri.
