Sebastian Vettel has opted for a change of scenery for the 2021 season. Vettel has taken his driving talents to the iconic British team, Aston Martin, which has made its return to F1 after 61 years. The German had endured a horror 2020 season which saw finish 13th in the Driver’s standings, his lowest finish since his rookie season. He will be desperate to get his mojo back and turn things around in the new surroundings, and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen believes he can do that with the right car.

However, the German has already faced a lot of adversity in his initial weeks with Aston Martin. His pre-season testing program with the car, AMR21, was plagued by reliability issues that included a gearbox problem. The car also doesn’t look as fast as it had done with the team’s previous entity, Racing Point.

In an interview that covered wide-ranging topics, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was asked about his thoughts on how Sebastian Vettel would fare at Aston Martin. The Dutchman believes that Vettel looks very happy in his new surroundings.

Verstappen also said if the team delivers a car as fast as last season, he expects the German to come roaring back.

The Dutchman said, “It’s hard for me to judge from the outside. But I could tell from the test in Bahrain that he was in a very good mood. If the car is as good as it was last year, I wouldn’t put it past him to achieve podium finishes. And maybe even a win or two.”

Can the German return to the glory of his Red Bull days?

Sebastian Vettel has taken a big bet in opting to drive for Aston Martin in 2021. He’s hoping that the atmosphere of the team is enough to spark those driving reserves within him. Even though the team is backed by the big brand, it will still operate with the budget of a midfield team.

The team will need to operate similar to how Red Bull did, as big-spending doesn’t necessarily lead to success.

The German, however, will get the chance to drive with a car more suited to his driving style. He would hope that the problems faced by the team are just initial teething problems that normally happen during the setup of a new team. The sooner the team is able to resolve its problems with the car, the sooner we may be able to see Vettel on the podium or potentially winning races.
