New Zealand F2 driver and Ferrari junior, Marcus Armstrong, became an overnight sensation on social media in the aftermath of Sunday’s F1 Virtual Grand Prix. 

He asked the Monegasque if he was on his Twitch stream and retorted that he shouldn’t be swearing. He then goes on to comment on fellow participant in the Virtual GP, Jimmy Broadbent, claiming to not know him. 

The Kiwi also provided an interesting piece of commentary on a maneuver he had executed during the race.

The 20-year-old also expressed surprise at the Real Madrid keeper, Thibaut Courtois, getting the fastest lap of the race. 

Who is Marcus Armstrong?

He’s a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy. For whom he will be competing in the Formula 2 Championship for DAMS Racing Team. 

Armstrong, last week, had the chance to test drive the SF71H during Ferrari’s recent winter testing at Maranello. 

By finishing second in the inaugural F3 Championship in 2019, he sufficiently. The Kiwi helped Prema Racing secure the Constructor’s title that season as well.

He raced for ART Grand Prix in the 2020 F2 Championship, in which he placed 13th with 52 points. He started the season very well, finishing second in the season-opening feature race at the Red Bull Ring. 

But, as the season went on, he suffered a spate of retirements, which saw him place 13th in the final standings. 

Former and present F1 drivers taking part in the Virtual Grand Prix

The virtual Grand Prix saw Enzo Fittipaldi triumph at the virtual Red Bull Ring, with his brother Pietro placing in fifth in the same race.

Ferrari had a pretty decent run at the event, as Leclerc placed third and Armstrong sixth.

Red Bull, too, performed well, with former F1 driver Alex Albon placing fourth. Albon was joined by Red Bull KTM factory rider Jeffrey Herlings.

Mercedes also took part in the virtual Grand Prix, with former F1 drivers, Anthony Davidson and Stoffel Vandoorne driving for them.

Even Williams driver George Russell was supposed to take part in the race. However, he had to opt out due personal reasons.
