First impressions of the Aston Martin on track

The British team’s car got its first run out on a race track when they had their shakedown on March 4. The venue to let the car fly was of course the historic Silverstone racetrack in England.

The British racing green of the car was resplendent in what were entirely wet conditions at Silverstone. Both drivers got the requisite and safe track time to feel comfortable with the machinery at their disposal for 2021.

In the above video posted on Aston Martin’s YouTube channel, Sebastian Vettel got significant airtime as he’s the newcomer to the team.

This came a day after the official launch of the team and their 2021 challenger, the AMR21. The launch was done very tastefully and was kind of a throwback to launches of yesteryear.

The event saw British actress Gemma Atherton present the launch and also saw an appearance from current ‘James Bond’, Daniel Craig. This was an obvious nod to the company’s standing in pop culture.

What can Vettel and the team give each other on the track?

Aston Martin are offering Vettel a chance at rebuilding his fallen reputation. The German has endured two sub-optimal seasons in the red of Ferrari.

The visible lack of confidence in his ability showed in his final days at Ferrari. The British team are hoping the change of environment will help him regain that confidence.

Vettel gives the team an experienced and victorious pair of hands behind the wheel of their car. His early impressions at the team have given off the vibe of an engineer racing the car.

This insight will help the team grow on and off the track. This could also be an early precedent of culture-building there.

This partnership seems like a match made in heaven and would be a very fascinating watch as the season wears on.
