After two long years, Fernando Alonso is finally set to return to the Formula One arena. This time, he is looking to reunite with the Renault F1 team, the ones who helped him bag two world championships.

Now, the Spaniard is set to partner Esteban Ocon in 2021 after Renault made the announcement.

With the announcement official, Alonso recently Tweeted a video documenting what happened after 2018. Since he stepped away from F1, Alonso has sought to raise his game with a number of new challenges. This includes trying to complete the prestigious Triple Crown, that only Graham Hill has completed.

To kick things off, the Spaniard competed in the World Endurance Championship with Toyota Gazoo Racing. With fellow former F1 drivers, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima, Alonso won the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

He even chalked up wins at Daytona, Sebring, Spa Francorchamps, and won the WEC in 2018 and 2019.

Fernando Alonso also took a stab at IndyCar, specifically the Indy 500. Unfortunately, both attempts at winning the iconic event have ended in failure.

His first attempt saw him briefly take the lead before a mechanical issue forced him out of the race. The following year saw Fernando Alonso fail to qualify for the race.

Therefore, it’s all in or nothing for him this year.

 Dakar Rally

Earlier this year, long before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Alonso participated in the grueling Dakar Rally. He did not have a particularly eyebrow-raising run, but he impressed quite a few people.

Now though, all that is behind him as he is looking forward to coming back to Formula One and linking up with Renault yet again.

The video ended with the Amazon Prime logo since there is a documentary on Alonso’s Dakar Rally stint, titled ‘Fernando’. The five-part series is said to document the Spaniard’s journey into the world of Dakar Rally.

According to reports, the show is set to air in late 2020 on Amazon Prime. However, it will debut in a limited number of countries like Spain, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Latin America.
