“What the Hell” – Charles Leclerc Has an Amusing End to His Qatar GP Weekend

In the final moments of the Qatar Grand Prix, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was left confused when he saw the fireworks ahead. The Monegasque did not realize that it was the final lap of the race. He could be heard on the radio talking about the same.
Ferrari had a good race with both their drivers finishing in the top eight. The red team now has a comfortable lead of over 40 points on their closest rival McLaren. Leclerc, who came home in 8th position, had an amusing moment towards the end.

After entering the final sector of the track, the red team driver saw fireworks and immediately responded with, “What the hell! This is not the last lap.” Although, after a fraction of a second he realized and immediately said, “oh yes it was.”

The Monegasque did not have the best of weekends. After an unsatisfactory qualifying session on Saturday, he is relieved after bringing some points home. “It is a difficult track to overtake. I am happy that I was able to show my true pace today after the change of chassis. We are happy to maximize team points on a more difficult weekend,” said Leclerc after the Race.
A decent recovery for Ferrari
Charles Leclerc did not particularly had a good qualifying session in the Losail Circuit. He was struggling to make it into Q2 initially and later failed to make it into Q3 on medium compound tyres. He was shifted to soft tyres after Q1 but the task did not look much easier for him even then.
“I have no idea [what went wrong],” he said. “I really have no idea. It was just slow all qualifying. We need to understand what’s gone wrong. I don’t have any explanation, to be honest for now.”

The team later found the issue with Leclerc’s SF21 after all. “After checking Leclerc’s car, a crack was found in the chassis, probably following a passage on the kerbs during the first attempt in Q1,” said the Italian team as reported by planetf1.

The red team driver finally gained back the speed in the main race after changing the chassis. He gained five positions to bring in crucial points for the team alongside Sainz.
