It’s been over a month since the dramatic Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton lost a potential eighth world title in a controversial manner to title-contender Max Verstappen in the closing stages of the race. Many within the F1 community thought that the governing body was corrupt, but McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown doesn’t agree with such opinions.

There is no doubt that the events of the final race of the season divided the racing community. Hamilton’s fanbase felt that the Mercedes driver was robbed of a world championship and quickly jumped to the conclusion that the FIA was corrupt.

Zak Brown isn’t of the opinion that the sport’s governing body is corrupt

The last few laps of the title-deciding race are the most talked about topic in the sport. Many believed that the FIA was corrupt in their decision-making, but Brown doesn’t believe those theories.

Speaking to BBC, “For those that might have a view of ‘the sport’s corrupt etc’, I don’t agree with that. Do I think potentially a different decision could have been made? Yes, probably. I want to wait to see what the FIA comes out with but I don’t think it was malicious and therefore I don’t think it’s corrupt.”

What does the McLaren boss have to say about the future of Lewis Hamilton in F1?

The Knight’s future in the sport is still up for debate. The 7-time world champion is waiting for the FIA’s decision on the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. On the other hand, Brown doesn’t think he will leave the grid, even though he is very upset about how things turned out at the Yas Marina Circuit.

He said, “I’m sure he’s very angry. But I think race-car drivers want to race and he’s a fighter and he will want to come back and win an eighth world title. I don’t think he’s ready to retire.

“I don’t know Lewis that well. I wouldn’t be shocked if he stopped. I don’t think anyone should take for granted he’s coming back. We shouldn’t discount or not recognise his frustration and anger. And maybe he hasn’t made a decision and maybe what he’s doing is taking time to make his decision, because once it’s made, it’s made.

“So I don’t think we should rule it out or make light of it. I just think he still has a burning desire to race and that will ultimately drive his decision,” Brown concluded.
