The year 2022 has been an emotional rollercoaster for sports fans, including Lewis Hamilton, with a few of the biggest idols bidding their goodbyes to their respective fields.
Indeed, we have four-time Formula One world champion, Sebastian Vettel, at the top of this list, as the German preps to end his 16-year stint by the end of this season. Then followed fan-favorite Argentine tennis player, Juan Martin del Potro, who walked into the retirement phase, earlier in February.
Now, another tennis legend has decided to hang their boots; Serena Williams. Yes, the American star, often hailed as the GOAT of tennis, will be ‘evolving away’ from the sport following a second-round defeat to Anett Kontaveit in the ongoing US Open.

Since then, tributes have been pouring in from around the world for Williams, with the seven-time F1 world champion, Hamilton, joining them with a wholesome post on social media.

Lewis Hamilton bids goodbye to Serena Williams
The Mercedes superstar took to Instagram ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix to hail Williams and her astonishing journey in tennis. “Taking a moment before the race today to show my appreciation and gratitude to the greatest of all time, @serenawilliams. We will never see another Serena.”
“She’s one of a kind. She came through like a wrecking ball and has been so spectacular to witness. She has such fierceness, power, and strength in both body and mind. To be so bold, Black, brave, and, above all, a kind and caring human being is beautiful. I remember watching her and Venus at their first games with my dad on TV.
