The Italian also admitted that in terms of performance, Alonso was very good. he believed that the Spanish double world champion is on par with the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. In terms of race craft, he was very close to the legendary Michael Schumacher. He later clarified that Alonso lost the championship [in 2010 and 2012] through no fault of his own.

In conclusion, Montezemolo said, “If he won one championship, today we are talking about something different. We are talking that Alonso, despite many years he didn’t have the best car, he was able to win the championship. Alonso is very strong.”
