Former F1 double world champion, Fernando Alonso has admitted that he would love to return to the sport. The Spaniard was clearly fed to the teeth with being stuck battling in the midfield, rather than rubbing elbows with the race leaders. Recently, Spanish media heard him say that if a top-tier team dangled an offer in front of him, he would be tempted to return to F1.

As of now, the 37-year old will be competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans series and attempt the Indy 500 once more. Only recently, he came back to the McLaren Formula One team, albeit in an ambassadorial position. As a member of the McLaren team, he will also get a shot at testing the 2019 beast, the MCL34.

However, he has firmly insisted that his number 1 priority remains winning the Indy 500 and completing the Triple crown.

Speaking to the Spanish press, he said, “You’re always going to miss formula one because they are the fastest cars on the planet. If you have the opportunity to be with a top team with the possibility of winning, you will always say ‘yes’ because F1 is F1.”

Furthermore, he added, “I’ll do the remaining WEC races and Le Mans again, but my head is in Indianapolis and trying to win that race.”

“I know it’s the hardest of the three in the triple crown because I grew up in F1 and if you have a good car, you can win the championship.”

In conclusion, he said, “And at Le Mans with Toyota we had a very good chance of winning because we had a better car, but Indianapolis is different,”

Personally speaking, it would be a waste of time for Alonso to return as age is a huge factor. Also, if any team were to have him, there would be concerns of a potential ego clash as both drivers will want to be considered top dog. In other words, think Lewis Hamilton vs Fernando Alonso in 2007 and multiply by one million.
