The future of Fortnite competitive appeared cloudy with Zayt’s retirement and other pros also hinting towards doing the same. However, it seems like Epic Games has realized the shortcomings, and has finally taken the first step in the right direction.
In a recent blog, the developer shared a lot of valuable details regarding the upcoming FNCS Trios. From an enormous prize pool to several changes in the meta, Fortnite pros certainly have a lot to look forward to.
As per Epic Games, 2021 will be the “pinnacle of Fortnite competitive”. Accordingly, the prize pool for the FNCS 2021 will be a staggering $20,000,000, as compared to $17,000,000 in 2020. 2021 will have four FNCS Trios tournaments, each with a $3,000,000 prize pool.

Every Fortnite season brings some unexpected changes in the meta, and Chapter 2 Season 5 was no exception. There were several changes in the arsenal, and new POIs like Stealthy Stronghold, and Colossal Coliseum made their way to the island.
Following a similar approach, the competitive playlists before FNCS will include these changes:
- Addition of Lever Action Shotgun, and removal of Rift Fish and Shockwave Grenades.
- Elevators and IO Guards won’t spawn.
- Sand tunneling will stay in competitive as long as it’s a part of the core playlists.
- New adjustments to the amount of Bars players start with.
