The FPS fever is on the rise again, courtesy of the surprise launch of The Finals. Ever since the developers made the unexpected announcement of The Finals release at The Game Awards 2023, it has been quite a popular trend in the FPS community. Currently, being the third most played game on Steam, the new FPS classic looks like a much-needed breath of fresh air for players. Despite being a free multiplayer, there’s still a lot of skepticism around the game. So, is The Finals worth your time?

From Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to CS2, it has been a busy year for FPS fanatics. However, the big banner releases of the year couldn’t match up to the expectations of the community. This was the time Embark Studio’s debut publication in the industry took the spotlight. Against all odds, this promising FPS, through its beta run, had all players invested. Could The Finals be the underdog FPS players need? The game released on December 7, so now is as good a time as any to give it a shot. But before you do, take a look at everything you need to know.

The main aim of the game is to wreck stuff, open up new paths, come up with cool ways to grab or steal other players’ cash in point A, and then make sure you Deposit it safely at Point B. Classes play a significant role in whether the gameplay leans toward defense or offense. In most ranked matches, you will notice a preference for defensive build classes. This is due to the time it takes to secure the cash your team accumulates. Which makes it less flexible in which contestant you will play to secure higher chances of winning.

Overall, most of the players have hailed praises for the game being a blend of every ideal FPS feature. Although there might be some factors that are hard to ignore in the game. Let’s simplify the case with what works for The Finals and what doesn’t.

Why you should play The Finals?

The gameplay of The Finals is impressive. As soon as you enter the game, you’ll feel engaged. Considering the fact that this is Embark Studio’s first creation, the developers have done quite a convincing job with the environment. The surroundings of the characters feel immersive and interactive. Players compete in teams of 3 in a destructible map. Talk about immersion! Gone are the days when objects on the map are immovable or unbreakable and just there, which at times can come across as very unrealistic.

Another feature that works in favor of the Multiplayer is it being cross-platform compatible. The reach with compatibility adds to all the compatible game modes available to explore in the game.

The ranking system, unlike the common FPS formula, adapts to a unique format. Now, the bracket system might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s a nice change from the usual stuff you find in other shooter games.

The Underwhelming Aspects in The Finals

All bugs that were reported in the game during the beta run were apparently brought to some resolution in the final launch, but there are still some aspects that need to be worked on. The movements from the beta run have reportedly been questionable. It’s not what players are used to like sliding, 360 movements, tap strafing. Melee in the game also feels very ineffective for most of the players. Early beta also reported mass glitches, lag spikes, and hitches. It is important to note that The Finals main launch comparatively feels better optimized. However, there’s one issue that cannot be ignored in the main game.

It’s hard to keep the cheaters out! The hackers in the game have been spoiling the party since beta and it hasn’t stopped. There’s also no obvious report system as the system in the game feels hard to navigate initially.
