Jordan Spieth hasn’t found a lot of things going his way for a few months now. But all that changed on Thursday when, during the 9th hole of the Players Championship, the fates intervened in Spieth’s wayward shot. Instead of heading straight for the hazard, the shot ricocheted off a fan standing at the edge and landed straight back onto the fairway. The astounded Spieth knew he owed that fan a great debt. And the golf world loved the way he tried to pay it off.
Jordan Spieth showers his lucky charm with gifts
All thanks to the fan, a.k.a. Lt. Col. Matt Cutler, Spieth made the cut and found a new motivation in the game. Despite having given him his glove soon after he eagled the hole, Spieth knew it wasn’t enough. He wanted to do more and, in his post-round interview on Friday, even said he’d give him “whatever he wants.”

But unlike many fans who would have asked for tons, Cutler didn’t want anything from the golf pro. His humility moved Spieth all the more. He gave him and his friends tickets to the third and fourth rounds, too. And following his brilliant six-under-par performance on Friday, the three-time major winner met with Cutler again.
Jordan Spieth gifted the fan and his friends tickets for the weekend, plus a signed flag.

After chatting him up for a few minutes about the shot and his luck, the golfer surprised the military man with yet another gift. A Player Champions flag signed by the 13-time PGA Tour winner himself “Sorry and thanks,” Spieth had written. The two laughed about the writing as the golf-pro claimed he didn’t know what else to say. Well, it certainly was a heartwarming gesture!
Spieth’s actions moved the golf world
The PGA Tour posted a video of Spieth giving Cutler the flag on Twitter, and the fans loved it. Seeing both the golf pro and the military man bonding and laughing won their hearts. Taking to the comments, they flooded the post with chants of how generous and gracious Spieth was.
Always gracious, Jordan!

Jordan is a class act.!

The fans also chimed in, calling Cutler a “class act” too. The fact that he had not humbly made any demands of the three-time major winner impressed the fans.
So classy by both. 👍🏻

But not all were happy! While some thought Spieth’s gift was the perfect apology, others suggested that he could have done more, like promise him part of his earnings.
The perfect apology 😂
