Golf isn’t just about personal accolades or performances on the greens. It’s about making a lasting impact and being an example to the younger crop. Honoring just that, the ANNIKA Inspiration Award, presented by Cleveland Brothers, is a new award created by the Annika Foundation to celebrate women “who are using their influence, passion, and leadership to inspire others beyond their competitive achievements.” The next obvious question is, who is the inaugural winner? Meet Rachel Heck.

The 10-time major champion and one of the greatest female golfers of all time, Annika Sorenstam, would be presenting the honor to the young amateur. The ceremony will take place during the ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican this week. However, beyond mere recognition, the award is a symbolic gesture of the veteran passing down the torch to the coming generations.
Sorenstam shared, “I think Rachel is an incredible inspiration for a lot of people. Again, it’s about the sport, highlighting what we can do as humans, and then going on to empower other things. We’re super proud of Rachel, to have her continue to be part of the family, and for us to be able to celebrate her this week.”

Rachel Heck is a standout amateur, competing for Stanford University. Making her mark as one of the most talented golfers in the US, Heck became the NCAA Individual National Champion (2021) at just 19, becoming Stanford’s first-ever woman to do so. She also received the 2021 WGCA Player of the Year award, having led her team in multiple Pac-12s. Heck has also represented America in the Curtis Cup and the Arnold Palmer Cup several times.
However, the recognition honors her beyond just her athletic prowess. It also reflects her resilience and patriotic edge, as she balances her golfing career with military service training, Air Force ROTC at Stanford. She was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Known for her discipline, humility, and commitment to service, she frequently speaks about faith, perspective, and gratitude, emphasizing that golf is just a part of her purpose.

Battling illnesses and shortcomings due to shoulder injuries, Rachel Heck showcased immense strength when she joined the Air Force, even during one of the darkest stretches of her life. She reflected later that the move to military service helped deepen her sense of purpose and faith in God.
“I do not want a life on the road and in the public eye. I no longer dream of the U.S. Open trophies and the Hall of Fame. And I realize now that these dreams were never what my dad intended when he first put a club in my hand. He pushed me when I was young so that I could find myself in the position I am right now: Stepping into the future equipped with the skills to tackle any challenge and the courage to pave my own path,” Heck shared with No Laying Up.

Rachel Heck will continue as an amateur even after she graduates from Stanford. She will also continue her service to America in the Air Force. The ANNIKA LPGA event will also help propel other rising talents into mainstream golf.

The world’s top talents are ready to take a flight to Florida as the showcase regular-season event prepares to set off from Nov. 13-16. However, some painful absences have left fans disappointed. 18-year-old Kai Trump is stealing the headlines with her promising debut at the tournament. As the granddaughter of the President of the USA, Donald Trump, Kai received one of the three sponsor exemptions into the ANNIKA at Pelican Field.

Annika Sorenstam herself expressed her approval of the move, sharing the foundation’s motto to raise and inspire young girls to take up the sport. “I support it. We are all about growing the game, especially to young girls. She has a bright future and is committed to the University of Miami to play next year. Kai has a tremendous social media following, which we feel will help elevate our event and ultimately the game,” Sorenstam remarked.

Trump, with her charismatic social presence and technical poise, has already raised expectations for the event. With nearly 9 million followers across her socials, Kai’s debut is poised to bring the eyeballs. She ranks No. 461 in the Rolex AJGA rankings and No. 1,288 on the Junior Golf Scoreboard, and will have Allan Kournikova as her caddie.
The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican this year is already shaping up to be electric. While Rachel Heck makes bold statements with her character and patriotic service, Kai Trump is stealing the cameras with her highly anticipated debut. Ultimately, it appears golf is poised to close the gender gap and set an example for female representation.
