The 2025 season has shown the downside of the fan favorites in golf. Earlier, Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele were among the top picks following their form, but their injuries led to a downfall in performance. Basically, the opposite of what fans expected. Such was the case with Jordan Spieth also. No, he didn’t have a great 2024, but a wrist surgery in the off-season made everyone believe that Spieth would be back with his classic Spieth Saturdays in 2025. That didn’t happen, but this isn’t stopping Brandel Chamblee from showering the praise on him.
With the PGA Championship coming up, Chamblee favored Jordan Spieth with all his heart against the panelist. Recently, on The Favorite Chamblee podcast, Bailey and Brandel Chamblee discussed the matter. Starting the discussion, wife Chamblee shared how Spieth’s performance drives hopes for fans, but that hasn’t been the case with his performance in the past. She said, “He is Spieth, he is still driving us crazy, but still does dumb things.” Well, for the three-time major winner, the performance saw a drop. He won his last in 2022 at the RBC Heritage, and since then, he has been in a drought.
But surprisingly, Brandel Chamblee was seen taking his side despite the declining form. He backed his argument, saying, “Quail Hollow has been won by players who have hit it everywhere.” He pointed out Rory McIlroy, who won the PGA Championship by hitting 19 shots on the fairway. He even noted that Tiger Woods and Justin Thomas won there. He continued, “There have been numerous examples of players winning Quail Hollow with great scrambling.” Spieth, despite falling behind with his finishes, has maintained great stats. For scrambling 2025, he is placed at 50th place with 63.60%, while for sand save, he is 33rd with 65.28%.

While sharing about the performance of Justin Thomas, who struggled to stay on the fairway, but made a great scramble. He said, “Now Justin Thomas is a heck of a scrambler, he really is, and so is Jordan Spieth. So in terms of scrambling, being able to play and potentially win a major championship, there are hardly any better venues than Quail Hollow.”

Notably, Spieth has had a great season with his performance, as he has managed to stay in the top-50 position with his course stats. Interestingly, for strokes gained in total, he is placed at 17th. Not just this, but he also had some remarkable finishes this season, hinting at his comeback.
Jordan Spieth’s performance in 2025
The former world number one has already bagged three major victories in his career, and now with the PGA Championship scheduled next, he will be aiming to clinch his career grand slam. Well, hopes are high for his performance, but with the mixed results this season, certainty cannot be drawn from it. Even the relation with victory for the golfer has been on a long break. He won his last in 2022, and since then, it has been a struggle-filled phase.

However, in 2025, he showed signs of a comeback as he recorded multiple top-10 and top-5 finishes. But what caused worry is his drop in performance. With the best performance of T4 at the WM Phoenix Open, he missed the cut in the next event. However, the early struggle in this schedule has faded as he finished in the top 20 in his last four appearances. Notably, he was placed fourth at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
