Bubba Watson Announces Unfortunate News on Social Media

The 2022 PGA Championship ended in favor of Justin Thomas. It was the second time he had conquered the title, even though he had to go through a grueling playoff to win it. While it all went great for the 29-year-old Tour golfer this week, another Tour professional didn’t had the same experience.

The American golfer Bubba Watson announced that he would be taking off from golfing because of an injury through social media.

According to the post, Watson will not be playing golf for a month or more. Furthermore, he also mentioned withdrawing from the upcoming Charles Schwab Challenge held in Texas Colonial Golf Club. The tournament will begin on May 26, Thursday this week.

Notably, the golfer didn’t forget to congratulate Thomas for winning his second PGA Championship title. The 29-year-old won the second major of the season at the Southern Hills after battling Will Zalatoris in a three-hole playoff. Thomas won his first PGA Championship in 2017.

Both Thomas and Zalatoris scored 275 after the fourth round. They had a 1-shot lead from Cameron Young and Mito Pereira, who ended up in the T3 position after the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Watson could only secure a tie at the 30th position with three others, including Tony Finau. He scored an overall of 3-over par after playing four rounds at the Southern Hills.

Bubba Watson to miss the U. S. Open?

According to Watson’s social media post, the golfer will not be back until 4 to 6 weeks. And the U. S. Open will begin on June 16, which is just 4 weeks away.

The 12-time winner on the PGA Tour is not part of the exempted players’ list of the U. S. Open. Notably, he has gotten an exemption on the Tour for winning the 2018 World Golf Championship.

However, it is not one of the 20 categories that makes a golfer exempt from the qualifying round of the U. S. Open. Therefore, he has to go through the 36-hole qualifying round to be qualified for the tournament.

Turned professional in 2002, Watson has never won a U. S. Open in his career. In fact, he has only won two majors in the last two decades, and both of them were the Masters.

Only time can tell whether Watson will play in the upcoming U. S. Open or not. The only thing that we spectators can do is hope for a speedy recovery for the golfer.
