Recently, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy‘s TGL have been the talk of the town. The golf league, in setting up a strong counter to LIV Golf, has been receiving immense admiration from the golf world and the sporting world in general. Especially with renowned sports people like Michelle Wie West, Serena Williams, and Alexis Ohanian have shown an interest in the endeavor.

A month ago, it also signed a deal with ESPN, under $151.07 billion giant, The Walt Disney Company. But as per a piece of news that has transpired lately, the tech-based innovation has received a major setback, and this has been a matter of dismay for Woods.

Tiger Woods TGL faces a major hitch

Last year, LIV Golf was included in the golf roster with its unconventional game pattern and format. Hence, it received censure from the golf pundits and community. Even a list of golfers criticized the league. Atop that list sat the legendary golfer of all time. 

In retaliation, Tiger Woods introduced his own TGL league, a tech-based facility that poses a direct challenge to Greg Norman’s venture. Also, since the TGL is backed by Woods himself, people appreciated the motive much better than they perceived LIV. But a recent update came as a shocker to Tiger Woods. 

The official page of the World Golf Awards has released a list of names for the different categories in 2023. However, while competitor LIV Golf bagged a few awards, TGL didn’t even get nominated in this index.

LIV bagged an award under the category ‘World’s Best Golf Innovation Award 2023’. Even the Golf Course Designer of the Year 2023 was given to Greg Norman and not Tiger Woods. Although Tiger has plenty of sponsors for its TGL, this report is a bad omen for the upcoming year.

There are several people from the golf world who have seen the potential in TGL’s motive and have trusted the league. Michelle Wie West and Stephen Curry are the investors on one of the teams.

In the sponsors’ list, it has entered into a deal with broadcasting giant, ESPN, and hence would get wide coverage and airing for the season. Other than ESPN, the banking and financial company, SoFi, has partnered with Woods to support his dream project. Even TMRW Sports has collaborated with Woods’ endeavor.
