Golf is among the many traditional sports in need of a facelift. For a fast-paced younger generation with a short attention span, the game often comes across as monotonous and lacking a rush of adrenaline.

But that is going to change significantly with the arrival of Tiger Woods in an all-new avatar, called TGL Golf. The emergence of TGL Golf is likely to effect a major shift, particularly on the gaming market from an investment point of view.

The fifteen-time major championship winner has turned out to be an astute businessman, which has expanded his recognition beyond the boundaries of the sport. While his latest brainchild venture, TGL Golf, was cultivated to rival the impact of the LIV Golf Series, Woods’ shrewd mind could be up to something bigger.

Indeed, the billionaire golfer must have noticed the astronomical growth of the gaming industry. The fast-rising endeavor is recording surreal numbers on various platforms, which have compelled business tycoons to shift their focus to the $347 billion market.

While TGL doesn’t fit the gaming culture completely, some of its features align with the multi-billion dollar industry. It will use the golf simulator to make up for long-distance drives, which makes technology a significant part of its plans.

It looks like Woods isn’t the only celebrity athlete considering this aspect. He will be joined at TGL Golf by several other stars from various sports domains and among them is also tennis legend Serena Williams.

Considered one of the greatest ever on the court, Williams has already chalked out her plans to enter the gaming market. A couple of years ago, she joined hands with a globally recognized competitive gaming organization called0 ‘Cloud9’, which ensures grassroots-level participation of children in a fully-fledged program.

Williams is also involved with Woods’ TGL after purchasing the league’s first-ever franchise team, which will be based out of Los Angeles. Can the revolutionary format become their entrance to the unrealized industry?

What is TGL Golf?

For the unversed, the tech-infused league is a product of TMRW Sports, headed by Woods and his PGA TOUR compatriot Rory McIlroy. The short-format game will debut in January 2024 and will be played across 15 events, with a newly constructed Palm Beach State College arena set to host the league.

While the series doesn’t deviate from the core attributes of the original sport, it allows certain aspects that could attract the younger generations. It will be played indoors and under lights and has a maximum duration of five hours, which is considerably less than that of a traditional golf day.
