The information via Golfweek reads, “AT&T Pebble Beach pro am to limit the amateur competition to the first 36 holes only, eliminating them from the weekend as the TOUR moves to make it a designated event next season.” 2024 is going to see many new changes in the American Tour. It is not surprising, as Rory McIlroy already hinted at it.

Regarding the changes, Jordan Spieth, the AT&T ambassador, shared his candid views earlier. The 2017 Pebble Beach Pro-Am winner said, “I heard that. That was maybe a bit premature.” On Wednesday, the American Tour commissioner sent a memo informing the members that the board has agreed to execute the plan at the beginning of 2024. However, the eight events which will turn designated have yet to be finalized, but the work is in progress. And the fans are happy with this update. They believe the AT&T Pebble Beach pro-am will now become a watchable event.

Some golf enthusiasts did not care, whereas a few were unhappy with the update. But mostly, they were in favor. Even this year’s event saw a few changes. Justin Rose was the winner of the Pro-am event this year in February. The event featured just three of the top 20 and 21 of the top 100 players worldwide.

What does the ambassador think about the changes?

The 2015 FedEx Cup champion, Jordan Spieth, thought it was premature, but he understood the reasons behind it. Talking about the pro-am, the major championship winner said, “For AT&T to be open to it would be really cool because I love that golf tournament, and it had been an unfortunate part of the schedule ever since the Saudi stuff and even before that.” He believes the top players are committing to the same events, which is plausible. However, he suggested focusing on the most iconic venues and ensuring they get the “coolest scenario for ratings, for sponsors.”
