Alan Shipnuck is the author of the biography of Phil Mickelson, namely ‘Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography of Golf’s Most Colorful Superstar’. The book releases on May 17th, just a few days before the 2022 PGA Championship begins at Southern Hills Country Club.

Shipnuck revealed the same in a piece he wrote on Thursday for the Fire Pit Collective. Interestingly apart from the article majorly being about Mickelson, it contains an intriguing part where Charles Barkley talks about Woods and makes brutally honest admission about him.
Phil Mickelson Once Wholeheartedly Admitted That Tiger Woods Played the Greatest Golf Ever
The NBA legend is in the inner circle of both Woods and Phil and has played with Mickelson in The Match, an exhibition match the played in 2020. Charles admits Woods is very talented, but it’s not fun to play with him. At the same time, he pointed out the difference between the two professionals. Not to forget, Mickelson and Tiger both share a fierce professional rivalry.
Barkley said, “One of the reasons Phil has lasted so long is because he’s had a joyful life. Tiger won a bunch of tournaments, but there wasn’t much joy in it. Sure, Tiger is a better golfer. You’re just in awe of his talent. But it’s not fun to be around him.”
He added, “Tiger himself has always acted like he’s under siege. Gimme a f—– break. You’re just a golfer, dude. When you’re with Phil, you’re guaranteed to have fun. He makes people feel good. Everyone around him is always smiling. That’s a huge difference, man.”
Barkley’s words may not be appreciated by Woods’ fans all over the globe. At the same time, it highlights a quality of Tiger that every time he plays he is there not to play for fun but means business.
