It might also affect the ongoing rivalry between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

Rory McIlroy spilled beans about the changes in the PGA Tour events

After increasing the prize money for the PGA Tour events, the Tour might come up with another strategy. Jay Monahan made the enhancements to retain the players who did not join LIV. And now, they have added a new plan which might come into action. Their focus is to compete and ace the rival Saudi-backed Tour. McIlroy has prompted that there might be more no-cut events on the PGA Tour. If this happens, it will change the picture of the ongoing rivalry.

In the press conference, McIlroy said, “Historically we’ve had tournaments that haven’t had cuts and really wasn’t any grumbling about it before LIV came along. So I think you’re going to see a mixture of both, to be honest with you.” The pro golfer pointed out the history of the American Tour. He said that the Tour used to have four of WGCs. Golfers had to play two playoff events, but now things have changed. The playoffs “went to three, so that’s six, then you had the two fall events, CJ and ZOZO.”

He said, “I think some tournaments more than others lend themselves to maybe having cuts and trying to keep some sort of history here.” McIlroy gave an example of ‘the old LA Open‘ holding a special place in golf’s history. The pro also suggested, “Is this an event that maybe should keep a cut going forward? Potentially, because of the history of it.“
