One of the said “downs” was back in 2017 when Lexi Thompson received a four-stroke penalty at the ANA Inspiration. As per sources, the LPGA officials received an email from a viewer about a possible rules infraction during the third round of the event.

“On Sunday afternoon, the LPGA received an email from a television viewer, saying that Lexi Thompson did not properly replace her ball prior to putting out on the 17th hole during Saturday’s third round of the ANA Inspiration. The claim was quickly investigated by the LPGA Rules officials.

After a full review, it was determined Thompson breached rule 20-7c (Playing From Wrong Place), and received a two-stroke penalty. She incurred an additional two-stroke penalty under Rule 6-6d for returning an incorrect scorecard in round three. She was immediately notified of the breach by LPGA Rules Committee in between holes 12 and 13 of the final round.”

Lexi Thompson puts an end to her career dry spell

Thompson has a long history of success. The pro golfer was the youngest golfer ever to play in the U.S. Women’s Open. She was just 12 when she achieved the aforementioned title.

Recently, the pro golfer broke a major career dry spell where she failed to win for almost 3 years. Thompson won the LET’s Aramco Team Series event on Saturday at Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in The Bronx with a three-under-par 69. The World No. 8 won by three shots over Brooke Henderson (68) and Madelene Sagstrom (69) after taking a two-stroke lead with a 65 on Friday.

Lexi said, “I’ve been working extremely hard on my game. I felt like it was a matter of time, but I just wanted to play golf and put myself in contention in the final rounds and learn from the losses that I had and what I needed to work on, and I brought that into today.”

She continued, “I wanted to play fearless golf, not play away from pins by any means, and commit to my shots. I hit some really good ones and I hit some iffy ones but with this wind, you have to take the bad ones as best you can.”

In a recent interview, she discussed her results. Lexi described her fearless golfing this time. After breaking this long curse, Thompson is likely to experience good fortune.
