PGA Tour is here to hook golf fans to yet another lavish event – Memorial Tournament 2023. The Memorial Tournament is an annual professional golf tournament founded by the GOAT, Jack Nicklaus in 1976 in honor of some great players from the sport’s history. The event will tee off from June 1st to 4th at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, and is set for a purse of a whopping $20 million.

Famous players like Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, and Robby Shelton among others will be putting on their best performances for golf enthusiasts for these four consecutive days. However, there is one golfer who had a bad break during the first round of the event.

PGA Tour Pro Billy Horschel breaks down after the round 1

Defending champion Billy Horschel found himself to be struggling during round one of the Memorial on Thursday.  Although Horschel started with a seemingly stable posture, his confidence soon turned downhill as the game went on. Following an unfortunate time on the green, Billy Horschel couldn’t help himself from having an emotional breakdown while talking to the media. 

The seven-time PGA title winner, who rocked the 2022 Memorial with a 13 under 275, failed at his attempt to impress fans and even himself as his composure started to unravel. Horschel opened up with a score of 12 under 84 which upset him so much that his world started to crumble by the end of the round. He told the media, “It sucked. Sort of thought I didn’t hit it very good in the pro-am, and even after the round it wasn’t bad. I mean, on video it looks good.”

He added, “But I’m not able to hit the cut the way I want. I can’t get the ball to start left the way I want.” Even though the golfer was in distress, he still didn’t let his failure drag him down for the rest of the game. Billy said, “I’ll keep working. As much as I would love to throw in the towel and not come out (on Friday), that’s just not in me. I’m just not one of those players.”

A look back at the Memorial 2022

Billy Horschel claimed victory at the 2022 Memorial Tournament Billy and took home a whopping prize of $2,160,000. Billy was already set to win this event since the third round and made his win by scoring four strokes over Aaron Wise. The 36-year-old won his seventh PGA title with perfection and the golf world cheered for him.
