At the sidelines of the PNC Championship, Daly dug deeper into the aspect. In fact, he was in awe of his young son’s swing. “What’s great about Little John’s swing is, he doesn’t quite go past parallel like his pops. But if you look at his balance, he’s always… his balance is unbelievable and his right leg never goes out,” he said.

Daly also spoke glowingly about his son’s follow-through, which was equally important post-hitting the shot. “So he turns really good and his follow-through is so powerful, he’s so strong, that’s why he hits so far,” he said. “It’s just for every part of his body is working.”

Change in technique led to swing variation

Back in the day, Daly himself boasted of range shots, making him one of the longest-distance hitters on the tour. But according to him, there has been a shift in golf swings with time, with more emphasis on technique instead of raw power.

“But in golf today, it’s more of the wrist because that’s where everybody’s getting their distance,” he said, before describing the principles of his time. “Back when we played, we had a balata ball. We had to sit on our right and push the ball up.”

“So now you just get on top of it, kill it with your wrists and he needs his swing is just… it’s absolutely perfect.”
