Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson are two of the most famous names teeing it up this week at the 2022 U.S. Open Championship. Mickelson has been in the limelight for his involvement with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series and has received severe backlash for playing on the new tour. McIlroy recently spoke about the same mentioning Mickelson and his stance on his decision to play for the LIV Golf series.

Not to forget, McIlroy is coming into the third major championship event of the year with a win at last week’s PGA Tour event – the RBC Canadian Open. It was his 21st Tour title, and he played brilliantly throughout the tournament. He is also among the prominent names who have voiced their loyalty to the PGA Tour.

McIlroy added, “‘I’ve been disappointed with how he has went about what he has done, but I think he has come back and shown some remorse about how he has handled some things so I think he has learned from that. Am I disappointed he has taken the route that he has taken? I am, but I still respect him tremendously.” 

The four-time major championship winner’s words prove that how he still respects the Lefty. At the same time, it also depicts how Rory did not like the decision Mickelson made.

Rory wins at the RBC Canadian Open for the second time

The famous golf pro played brilliantly at the challenging golf course. He ended the event with an overall score of 19-under-par. As a result, he won the Tour event with a comfortable two-shot lead. Furthermore, McIlroy carded a final round of eight-under-par, 62 to finish on the top of the leader board.

His final round of 62 included five birdies and four pars, As a result, he moved out in five-under-par, 29. Rory made five birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to end his round.
