‘I’ve Been the Best’: Despite Being in the Top 5, Jon Rahm Expresses His Disappointment Towards the New OWGR System

Ever since OWGR came up with the new updated ranking system, many professionals are not very happy with it. And one of these golfers is PGA Tour’s, Jon Rahm. The former world no. 1 has been giving statements about the new OWGR system since November 2022. And his views about it are still similar to his older perspective towards the rankings.

It was not very long ago when golf star Jon Rahm called the updated ranking system “laughable” in November last year. However, his outlook towards it is still not different. Despite all his amazing performances in recent times, Rahm still sits at no. 5 in the world since October 2022. But according to him, he is currently the world’s best golfer and deserves to be at the top.

Adding to his unbelievable records, Rahm recently claimed the title for winning the Sentry Tournament of Champions. And after his dramatic victory, the golfer was asked about his views on reaching the first rank again. Here’s what he said:

“Oh, I definitely do, yeah. And had they not changed the world ranking points, I would have been pretty damn close right now. Because since the playoffs, I have not missed a top-seven. I’ve won three times, and I don’t even get close to him…. But in my mind, I feel like, since August, I’ve been the best player in the world.”

The golfer also talked about his concerns about moving ahead of Patrick Cantlay, who is currently fourth in the world. According to Rahm, the new system has made it very tough for him to move ahead in the rankings. And it is something that is bothering him too much since last August.

For those who are not aware, the rankings are now focused on the strength of the field. And since the Sentry Tournament had only 38 players, fewer OWGR points were awarded to the players in comparison to bigger tournaments.

However, a lot of big players are also in support of OWGR’s decision to change their policies. But Rahm is definitely not happy because he deserves to receive more ranking points according to him.
