‘I Get Chills’: Tiger Woods Once Reflected on a Special Experience With His Father Watching the World Series With Die Hard Dodgers Fans

It is not a secret that the 15-time major winning champion of golf is close to his family. In fact, his father gave him his first golf lessons. Although his father is not with him anymore, Tiger Woods still cherishes the moments he spent with him, going to watch their favorite baseball team play is one of them. 

“Yeah, I get chills just thinking about that,” Woods said. He discussed the time when he and his father, Earl Woods, went to watch the LA Dodgers in an interview with Golf Digest.

The golfer explained that he and his father went to Game 1 of the World Series. “We got outfield tickets,” Woods recalled. He still remembers everything about one of the special events he got to go to with his father. 

“I think it was four three at the time,” Woods explained it as if it had happened yesterday. He explained that after Kirk Gibson went and hit the running score against Oakland A’s Dennis Eckersley, the whole stadium went insane. 

“I’m screaming. I can’t hear myself,” Woods explained his state at the moment. “It was just exciting for all of us, who are die-hard Dodgers fans.”

Furthermore, he explained that watching Gibson score off of Eckersley was a good feeling to experience live. According to him, Eckersley is the greatest reliever of all time, after New York Yankees Mariano Rivera

The game Woods explained happened back in 1998. The world of baseball still remembers the special moment. And to commemorate the 30 years of the event, Eckersley threw the ceremonial first pitch to Gibson in Game 4 of the 2018 World Series.

Although everyone knows about Earl Woods’ interest in golf, not many knew that he was an athlete himself. He was the first black baseball player to play for Kansas State University and the Big Seven Conference.

According to Tiger Woods, it was the first sport he played and the second favorite sport he enjoys playing. The golfer even credited baseball for his praise-worthy footwork. 

Baseball for Woods is not just a sport. It is the bridge that connects him to his beloved father. His favorite sport will only be golf, and he will only have a love for it. Yet, the golfer still has a special place for baseball.
