Looking at the experience Rory McIlroy holds when it comes to the Ryder Cup, it is only natural for curiosity to fence the role he will play on the European side. However, the 34-year-old did not seem too concerned regarding this issue in the recent press conference. In fact, the golfer believes his six-time biennial event experience hasn’t created any unnecessary pressure on him.

In fact, the captain has let him be a little bit. However, this doesn’t imply that when the need arises, he shall not step into the shoes of responsibilities required of him. Reflecting on these sentiments, the former World No.1 voiced that if anything is asked of him as a veteran player, he is sure to come forward and take initiative in what is needed of him.

McIlroy also expressed his comfort in lending his help to nurturing the young talents at all required times. Yet, the Northern Irishman felt that it was not his place to deliver his captain any opinion. His faith in his team was evident as he expressed his outlook toward the European vice-captains.

McIlroy said, “Luke I think has got a lot of great vice captains around him and has leaned on a couple of past captains, as well, which has been great.” The direct response indicated the dynamics of the European side and the further emphasized relationship between the veteran golfer and his Ryder Cup captain.

Explaining earnestly, McIlroy commented, “We’ve played a lot of golf and trying to play well.” This clearly indicated their relationship being golf-centric in its basic sense. Although, the World No.2 soon divulged the off-course bond between the teammates. He revealed them to have chats as they live on the exact same street back in Florida.

His intention of highlighting that they “live ten houses down from each other” was to straighten out a narrative. It emphasized their inevitable regular meets, though inclining toward a more casual side. Per McIlroy, the interactions definitely don’t surface from “sit-down talks and strategies and pairings.”
