Patrick Cantlay Is No Longer Sponsorless: Finally Moves to Wear a Cap After Burying Absurd ‘Hatgate’ Allegations

It was truly a dramatic year for Patrick Cantlay in 2023. From coming under scrutiny for not wearing a hat at the Ryder Cup to losing his sponsorship for the same, the 31-year-old has been on a rollercoaster ride. However, it looks like 2024 will witness the golfer rising from the ashes as the professional takes to Hawaii, all the while sporting a new headwear this time around, courtesy of a new partnership.

It seems the athlete would be finally showing off his hat on the golf course. Yep, you heard that right! He is wearing a cap as he takes to the first event of the PGA Tour calendar. But, his new endorsement seems to be more than just about the money as he once again takes up the hero’s mantle for Maui!

The 8X PGA Tour champ had earlier teamed up with the First Responders Children’s Foundation in a multi-year partnership to support the families of emergency workers across the country. However, in a surprising development, he would be sporting the logo of the FRCF on his new cap.

The 2X BMW Championship winner had earlier announced his intention to start a fundraising campaign with the foundation “to aid first responder families impacted by the wildfires in August.” In addition to the initiative now, the American has also gone ahead to create a four-year grant named after himself to help the children in their future.

The new development to the collaboration comes off as nothing short of a surprise owing to the controversy that the Ryder Cup star had been embroiled with during the event. But even so, his recent revelation of the truth behind the whole ‘HatGate’ controversy does clear up the rumors surrounding the same all the while putting an end to his no-cap era.

Nevertheless, apart from the speculations of the rift and the money, the golfer’s actions during the biennial tournament did come with a consequence of sorts. It did not help him at all when it came to the renewal of his endorsement with Goldman Sachs!

The loss of Cantlay’s four-year contract and the ‘HatGate’ controversy

The global investment group had signed with the golfer in 2020 for three years following which they extended the same for one more in 2023. However, their reevaluation of the partnership did not bide well for Cantlay as the bank rethought its deal with the golfer. Well, his Ryder Cup stint did not seem to help either.

Despite mentioning how the headgear did not fit for the prestigious competition, many speculations had arisen claiming it was a silent protest due to there being no money for the same. However, the athlete, a while back put a shush to all those rumors as he revealed the real reason behind the same – “I didn’t wear a hat because the hat didn’t fit exactly as I would have liked,” while vehemently denying any connection between his no-cap style and the money talks. Well, the PGA Tour pro can finally feel “comfortable” donning his hat on the course.
