Phil Mickelson’s Good Friend Provides an Update on Lefty and His Return: ‘Enjoying His Time off the Hamster Wheel’

The Match featuring four of the famous quarterbacks in the NFL will start in some time. However, it will not feature Phil Mickelson, a familiar name in the Capital One Matches. Moreover, the producer of the Match recently talked about the same and provided an update on Mickelson’s return.

Bryan Zuriff, the famous American producer, spoke about the same on the Hot Mic podcast ahead of the exhibition match. Moreover, the Hollywood producer talked about whether the six-time major championship winner will join the broadcast of the face-off between Tom BradyJosh AllenPatrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers. And in the process provided a crucial update about his comeback. The Match will feature a 12-hole event with live spectators for the first time, and the live telecast of the short match will take place at 6:30 pm ET.

The famous producer, who is a good friend of Mickelson talked about how the World Golf Hall of Fame member is enjoying his break from the sport. At the same time, he said that the 51-year-old is welcome to come back once he wants to return, but Mickelson will not be a part of the Match as he is spending quality time away from golf.

The producer talked about Mickelson after being asked by the host, James Colgan if the fans will see him during the broadcast of the intense exhibition match. Bryan said, “No. I swear to God, people think I’m making this up — Phil is enjoying his time off the hamster wheel. He’s enjoying it. He has gone balls to the walls for 30-plus years — doing every interview shaking every hand being an incredible ambassador.”

He added, “He’s taking a break and he actually is enjoying it. So we will eventually see him, but he’s enjoying his time off. And he’s really happy about that. But I consider him a lifelong friend and a partner. And when he wants to come back, he’s welcome to come back.” Moreover, Zuriff’s words prove that Phil Mickelson is having a good time as he is away from the sport. At the same time, it also shows how much respect Bryan has for the Tour veteran.

When did Phil Mickelson last play on the PGA Tour?

The 45-time PGA Tour winner last played on the Tour in January at the Famers Insurance Open. The event took place at the challenging Torrey Pines Golf Course earlier in the 2022 Season. However, he did not finish as he would have expected at the tournament. Mickelson ended the Tour event with an overall score of three over par. As a result, Mickelson missed the cut by three strokes, which was determined at even-par. He carded an opening round of four-over-par, 76, and followed it up by a round of one-under-par, 71.

Moreover, his second round of 71 included four bogeys and two birdies on the opening nine holes on the North Course. As a result, he moved out in two-over-par, 38. The golf legend made three birdies and six pars on the back nine to end his round on Friday. But in the end, it wasn’t enough and he could not make it through to the weekend.
