The Ryder Cup is indubitably a competition of sheer pressure where the golfers play the game putting their honor and glory on the line. And, this has been the case even for Tiger Woods throughout the eight appearances he has made during the past two decades in the biennial event. But then again, even the legend, who will miss out on the upcoming event in Rome, had some moments on the course where he couldn’t help but give out a laugh.

A caddie is crucial to a golfer in order to find their way through the rounds, especially on bad days, and this has especially been the case with Woods who has been a big beneficiary of his famous caddie’s advice on countless occasions. But there have also been moments when a caddie becomes a source of distress or maybe even laughs.

Woods had been a major force at the biennial event. And a lot of the credit usually goes to the loopers who have carried the bags for the PGA Tour pro, especially Steve Williams who had been the professional’s assistant from 1999-2011. But a recent post has brought back a troublesome, albeit hilarious moment that the bagman for the 15X major champion at the 2006 Ryder Cup made the GOAT experience.

The Instagram post, captioned “Oops 🤷‍♂️“, rightfully so, shows Williams stumbling over the edge of a lake due to which he lets go of the golf club in his hand. The equipment falls into the water body as the looper slowly gets back up on his feet. As the bagman turns back, he faces a laughing Woods who walks over to the bank and observes the lake that has swallowed his Nike Forged Blade 9-iron.

The incident took place during the Sunday singles of the event at K-Club in Ireland where he was playing Europe’s Robert Karlsson at the 7th. The club could only be retrieved eight holes later but by then the Hall of Famer had gone on to win the match 3&2.

The looper, who helped Tiger win 13 of his 15 majors, would not have even thought of such an incident, even in his wildest dreams. But alas, it did happen, evoking a reaction from the greatest of the game.

But Steve Williams saved Tiger Woods’ towel!

Many of the golf enthusiasts were surprised to see the old video re-emerge on Instagram. But they pounced on the opportunity and let the world know what they thought of the incident.

On the next hole, the 8th, the 9-iron was required to make the second shot as revealed by Williams in an interview with Chasing Majors. Well, he did mess up the situation badly as stated by a fan, “And then little Stevie went and screwed Tiger over.”

Many thought the looper took a lot of time to get back on his feet and should have jumped after the equipment straight away to retrieve it. “Steve better be jumping in after it.”

Well, another set of propositions also followed mentioning how the GOAT should have taken matters into his own hands. And by that, they don’t mean him jumping after the club. A netizen commented, “Tiger should have pushed him in at that point lol 😂,” followed by another one who said, “I would’ve told him to get his ass in there and get out! NOW!!”

Well, a caddie does get paid enough, especially when carrying the bags for someone like the 15X major winner. A commenter pointed out Williams fell short in his duties as he prioritized a minor thing like towel. “I’m in the water getting it back. Especially if I’m getting paid. Dude saved the towel💀.”

Some followers even went ahead to bring in Bryson DeChambeau, who is often termed as a perfectionist on the course. The nickname ‘Mad Scientist’ is not for show as he takes everything into account in a game. “Imagine if that was Bryson’s caddie!! Homie woulda been swimming so fast.”

There were even mentions of firing Williams, albeit in a humorous manner. One of the fans went on to comment: “Next day, another Cadie, just a coincidence 😂,” to which another replied: “You’re fired!! Lol.”
