Just five weeks before the Masters, Jake Nicklaus, the 17-month-old baby of Steve Nicklaus, and Jack’s grandson died in a tragic hot tub accident and left the golf world in shock. However, in spite of the tragedy, Jack appeared at the Masters.

Steve Williams, Tiger’s former caddie spoke about Jack’s courageous appearance at the Augusta in 2005. Steve spoke about Jack in the recent episode of the podcast namely, Chasing Majors. Williams said,“…I mean, I think that just gave the tournament a little bit more. You know, it was a 2005 Masters, but it had a little more meaning to it.”
“…I knew all the Nicklaus boys pretty well… So it was yeah, it was a tough time for everybody, and I mean, you know, and I was just tremendous that Jeff elected to play at Augusta.”
He added, “It’s just a measure of the man. I mean, get the best show of the week there, and I think at the time, he was in the mid-60s, And then, he shot like 75, 76, or something like that. I mean, which is incredible at his age. And it was, you know, he wasn’t playing a lot of competitive golf. So it was huge. That gave that total just an extra dimension…”

Tiger Woods dominance at 2005 Masters
Eldrick Woods won yet another Masters title at Augusta National in 2005. He ended the event with an overall score of 12-under-par. As a result, he forced a playoff. Tiger won the epic two-man playoff with Chris DiMarco with a beautiful 15-foot birdie on the first playoff hole, the par 4, 18th to win his fourth green jacket. He also won a prize money share worth $1,260,000.
