Jack Nicklaus is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time, along with Tiger Woods. As the maestro of golf, many golfers and their caddies look up to Nicklaus. Notably, Steve Williams, Woods’ former caddy, has also learned an important lesson from the golf legend. 

Williams shared the main factor that attracted him to Nicklaus, and what he wanted to learn from him, on the latest episode of his podcast, Chasing Majors. 

“One thing I always learned from Jack Nicklaus,” Williams said as he began to talk about Nicklaus. “Jack would never ever hit any chip shot from a position he was never going to hit the ball.” Woods’ caddy of many years explained that he loves this quality of Nicklaus the most. 

He further added that the other golfers should learn from the golf legend as they often try and practice unwanted shots in the range. He added, “Jack would never do that, not going to practice that shot.” According to Williams, Nicklaus would never practice a shot that he is not planning to play in the tournament. This strategy of his helped him win his championships. 

Nicknamed the Golden Bear, Nicklaus had the most success at the major championships, especially the Masters. Six of his 18 major championship victories were at the Masters. Beginning from the most number of wins, Nicklaus holds a lot of records at the Masters alone, including most Top 5 and Top 10 finishes.

Apart from Nicklaus, Woods is the only golfer who has had the most success at the Masters.

Woods won his first Masters’ tournament a year after he joined the PGA Tour. He still holds the record of the youngest to win; Woods was 21 when he won one of his first major championships.
