Tiger Woods‘s former coach has unleashed his disapproval once again. As it turns out, he has had enough of the Official World Golf Ranking not providing any points to LIV Golf events. The veteran coach has come forward to criticize the golfing system after two LIV Golf events have concluded.

The winners of the tournaments could not see their OWGR rank improve even by a decimal. Even though the field at LIV’s event is filled with top golfers and major winners, their ranks are dropping every day, and as per him, it might make sense for the “idiots” running the OWGR.

While the LIV Golf was playing on Super Bowl’s turf, Dustin Johnson proved himself a worthy golfer yet again and clinched his third victory at LIV Golf. On the Las Vegas Country Course, he became the only golfer to win in every season of LIV since it started in 2022 and regained his top position in the 2024 standings. Johnson was the 2022 Individual LIV Golf season winner as well and this season too, the 2-time major champ is eyeing the trophy. However, even after his arduous efforts, the 42-year-old has dropped to his worst rank ever.

DJ currently sits at the 231st position in the OWGR standings. Earlier, in December, Johnson fell to 165th spot, which then marked his career’s worst rank, but the new blow might be harsher for him. Flushing It Golf shared a tweet addressing the drastic difference in the performance of Johnson, who shot 67-62-69, Talor Gooch, and Peter Uihlein, who were second and third on the leaderboard, respectively, and their OWGR ranks.

Hank Haney, who coached Woods from 2004 to 2010, re-shared the post, which implied that the OWGR rank was looking quite nonsensical and thus the ranks of these golfers did not display their full potential. Haney said, “These rankings make perfect sense to the idiots that run the OWGR.”

Haney was not always in the support of the Saudi-funded league and the players who defected to it. There was once a time when he referred to the players who moved to the other side as a “supporting cast.” He also said that the PGA Tour did not lose Tiger Woods but “lost a bunch of guys [who] used to support Tiger Woods.” But the times have now changed.

The OWGR had rejected the plea of LIV Golf for world ranking points on accounts of the 54-hole format which differed from every other league that qualifies for OWGR’s system. Haney once called the ignorance of golf media for the LIV pros.

Hank Haney calls out the media’s hypocritical stance on LIV Golf

Last year, as the DP World Tour started its 2024 schedule, the initial five events were won by three LIV Golf players; Joaquin Niemann, Dean Burmester, and Louis Oosthuizen. Then, it was argued that playing on the LIV Golf seems to work for golfers as their forms are coming back and they are earning titles outside of the league.

Moreover, Hank Haney stated that no one would agree to it, especially the golf media. He tweeted out a single sentence and said, “Good luck getting anyone in the Corrupt Golf Media to admit that.” Haney had always been unapologetic for his stance on LIV Golf and called out the golf world whenever needed, regardless of how ruthless he may sound.
