The PGA Tour exceeds the women’s circuit in several aspects. One of those aspects happens to be the viewership of both the leagues. While the men’s circuit gets the best from the golf community, the LPGA Tour finds itself way behind in attracting the public’s attention to its events.

In September of the Solheim Cup, Team America’s captain, Stacy Lewis, had grieved about the lack of coverage, and now, the LPGA cover girl, Nelly Korda, confessed the lack of ‘Primetime TV’ available for the women’s golf as the issue, while being hopeful for a stronger future for the LPGA Tour.

Nelly Korda wishes for more ‘Primetime’ coverage

Nelly Korda is one of the participants in the annual PNC Championship. The 1x major champ will be playing alongside her father, Petr Korda. Before teeing it off at the event, the pair sat for a pre-match press conference where Korda shared the progress of women’s golf and one thing that is holding it back.

The 8x LPGA Tour winner compared the two Tours; men and women and found a striking difference between the two. She said, “I think what’s holding it back is that we’re not on prime-time TV, obviously all the time like the men are. I think that’s where you get the most viewership.”

The grievance shared by the golfer resonated with what Lewis and many in the golf community had previously complained about. The LPGA circuit does not have as many TV deals coming to it as the PGA Tour. However, Korda appreciated the progress the Tour has made till now.

She expressed her satisfaction and said, “I think that we are making the right steps forward as a Tour. But obviously being there, you would like it to progress maybe faster.” Korda understood the delay but as per her, the “right platform” for the LPGA Tour would be “prime time TV.” However, while describing the plight of the women’s circuit, Korda highlighted another issue related to the progress of the LPGA Tour.

Korda takes the route of patience for progress

Although Nelly Korda wants an increase in viewership, her later comments indicated that she understood it would take more time than people expected. Korda used one of her father’s Czech analogies and said, “A lot of people, if you give them a finger, they want the whole hand, they want the whole arm.”

The LPGA pro further added to the meaning behind the analogy and explained that people expect quick changes to the game, but in reality, it will take time for the LPGA Tour to reach the same level as the PGA Tour. Therefore, the LPGA tour will have to take “a step at a time.” The 8x LPGA champion is one of the advocates for women’s golf and is hopeful about the changes that will revolutionize the game. Until then, she is willing to wait and take one step with the Tour.
