PING has been providing world-class golf equipment to golfers since 1959 and its headquarters is in Phoenix, Arizona. Apart from providing irons, drivers, and wedges, PING makes putters of supreme quality. In the 1970s came out with gold putters, given out to winners on the tour who used their putters – one would go to the player, and another was kept in PING’s headquarters.

The first documented putter win (for Ping) was in 1962, the Cajun Classic, which was won by John Barnum, who used the (model) 69 series. This tradition of doing gold-plated putters started in the mid-70s, so some of these putters have been added after the fact. The first major was the ’69 Masters with an Anser by George Archer. Lee Westwood has 13 or 14 models which include different varieties like blade, mallet, and mid-mallets.

Tiger Woods, who is arguably one of the greatest players of all time and presumably the person who is responsible for making golf one of the most popular sports in the world. He used the PING ANSER-2 in the bag and won the 1994 U.S Amateur Championship. PING made a replica gold putter of the same.

The importance of putting in golf

Apart from driving as well as iron game, putting is an area every successful golfer is very good at. Putting is very crucial for one’s success. It does not only involve using the putter, but a major part of it is reading the greens.
